Our Story
In the Department of Applied Economics (formerly the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics), we confront pressing challenges by analyzing the economic forces that shape our environment and society. Our faculty and students explore critical issues such as sustainable agriculture, climate change, resource management and international development, assessing how individual and business decisions influence well-being.
We offer two dynamic undergraduate majors—Agricultural and Food Business Management and Environmental Economics and Policy. Our students thrive in small, engaging classes; benefit from close faculty mentorship; and gain invaluable real-world experience through research, internships and hands-on projects.
Since 1935, our renowned graduate program in Applied Economics has prepared influential scholars and leaders, with a strong focus on environmental, resource and agricultural economics.
Through impactful extension and outreach, we bridge research and practice, collaborating with citizens, farmers, conservationists, businesses and policymakers across Oregon and beyond to develop real-world solutions.
Make a Dam Proud Day gift to the Department of Applied Economics to strengthen Oregon now – and, through our graduates, for years to come.
